I consider myself an abstract symbolist who works with color, texture, shape and storytelling imagery to convey my curiosity and appreciation for the earthly experience we call life.
Because I am a painter with a theater and storytelling background my work is an expressive experience. My paintings use a dance of color to manifest dreamlike, whimsical, and dramatic forms where energetic flows or explosions appear. In my paintings I examine the body, the dark and mysterious corners, the stopping places, and launching pads of the soul. I’m deeply affected by the style of the original artists, the cave painters.
Bodies of water are often referenced in my work. My Deep series, which references underwater seascapes, allows the idea that a person may dive into their subconscious and heal issues of trauma from a point of origin.
My recent art forays have unearthed ancient art and science and the direct relationship to present day discoveries. Inventive drawings by DaVinci, theories by Einstein, diagrams by Jung, and geometric patterns are often embedded in my work. These explorations are not merely intellectual but deeply personal and afford me a more complete understanding of the concepts and my own healing process. A fascination for the time space continuum elicits my awe. I am developing a series of paintings inspired by the James Webb and Swift photos to discover images I find most inspiring. This is often the exact place for me where science, art and healing meet. These images will invite the viewer to confront the power of simple beauty, the incunabula, rites of passages, epiphanies, and rebirth.
These days my studio is the crossfire of of what is for me the astonishing combination of science, art and personal healing.
