SHANA NYS DAMBROT, NUMBER 1 LA ART CRITIC SAYS:
"In the heartily textured, expressively drawn, chromatically saturated abstractions by Eva Montealegre, the artist’s own process
of self-discovery plays out in organic, macro/micro shapes and patterns that don’t so much communicate her hard-won insights
as offer local evidence of the journey. Pondering interconnectedness from the cell to the star, light waves and brain waves,
archetypes of the individual psyche and collective unconscious, along with natural and culturally-activated principles of color,
she also draws parallels between the sinewy body and the undulating oceans, tracing energy fields and fractal musicality as
one among many ways to understand what life is."

October/November 2024
The Makery Gallery Los Angeles, Enter the Goddesses, curated by Laura Brody.
The ENTER THE GODDESSES exhibit is simply fabulous!
It features the work of multiple talented artists (including two paintings of mine) and making it even more exciting was the fantastic,
and I do mean fantastic, exhibit downstairs of THE ART OF COSTUME, (wearable art.)
Monica Marks presented both a goddess piece and a wearable artwork and next time I will do the same!
Many of the works had a spectacular aspect that made this group show shine out among the many group shows in Downtown Los Angeles.
The themes of both exhibits were tangible, visceral and curated with a keen eye. We have to acknowledge the talent of Laura Brody. Not only
for her own creations but for her respect for her artists and her pure curatorial ability. I especially like the idea of recycled, upcycled and found
object wearable art and there were many pieces of this ilk. There will be an artist talk coming up on October 27th from 1 to 4 pm, poster below.
I hope you will join us. You're going to want to hear what these women have to say!

tribal characterizations” to explore “our life’s blood connection to all that is.” Blood Mandala is what Montealegre names

Genie Davis reports on the Fuerte! Exhibition at Los Angeles Makery, March 2024
Play and Perfection at The Makery
Posted on March 16, 2024 by Diversions LA
There are two terrific exhibitions currently exuding the spirit of play and perfection that inhabits the artist-run
The Makery Gallery in DTLA.
In the upstairs gallery, on view until March 30th, Betty Brown and Eva Montealegre have curated the dynamic
Fuerte! which vibrates with texture, color, and the tactile.
Brown and Montealegre grouped together a rich panoply of West Coast-based, multi-cultural women artists.
Exhibiting artists include Adeola Davies-Aiyeloja, Roxane Berger, Dellis Frank, Susanne Hannon, Debbie Korbel,
Eva Montealegre, Richelle Rich, Leigh Salgado, Hiroko Yoshimoto, and Linda Vallejo.
Among the many standouts are Vallejo’s stunning, large-scale wall sculpture “Golden Earring;” Korbel’s purple hued
free-standing sculptural pup, “Baby;” and the lacey insouciance and intricate delicacy of Salgado’s intimate and
sensual hand-cut acrylic and paper works.
Frank’s vibrant mixed media found art and textile wall sculptures; and Rich’s astonishing depiction of lushness in
“It’s All for You,” also dazzle.
Montealegre’s dreamily deep oil paintings, and Davies-Aiyeloja’s acrylic works speak to us of other worlds and
magic.
Each artist’s work is as immersive as it is full of spirit-elevating punch.
Fuerte translates roughly to strong and sharp, and the images here live up to the title.

the classic maha, which were often contessas and baronesses who posed for many of the male art masters.
In a space/time continuum, I approach this subject from the viewpoint of the woman. It's not about how
she looks. The depiction is of how she feels. Through Feb 29, 2024
